Google Health brings Gemini-powered AI coaching to India

Google has moved its consumer health platform into a new phase by transforming the Fitbit app into Google Health. Existing Fitbit users are being moved to the redesigned experience, while Google plans to bring Google Fit users into the same app over time.The goal is to make Google Health a single place for fitness, sleep and overall wellness information instead of requiring users to jump between multiple dashboards. Google says the app can bring together data from supported wearable devices, Health Connect, Apple Health and other connected health sources.The redesigned experience also puts greater emphasis on personalised guidance. Rather than simply displaying steps, sleep scores or workout history, Google Health is designed to interpret that information and help users understand what actions may be useful next.

The biggest addition is Google Health Coach, an AI-powered wellness assistant built with Gemini. Google describes the coach as a fitness trainer, sleep advisor and health and wellness guide available directly through the Google Health app.Instead of relying only on generic reminders, the coach can use information about a user's goals, daily routine, activity, sleep and other available health data to provide personalised suggestions. Users can also tell the coach about factors such as their workout equipment, schedule or recovery priorities.The conversational interface allows users to ask questions naturally rather than digging through multiple charts. The coach can help create workout plans, explain trends and provide proactive suggestions based on changing health and fitness information.

Google Health reorganises the health-tracking experience around key areas such as daily activity, fitness, sleep and overall health. Users can prioritise the metrics that matter to them and get a more consolidated view of their progress.The Fitness area can surface weekly plans and workout suggestions, while the Sleep experience focuses on consistency and progress toward better rest. Google also continues to support familiar health metrics such as heart rate, steps, distance, cardio load and sleep scores when compatible devices are connected.The broader aim is to make health data easier to interpret. Instead of presenting individual measurements in isolation, Google Health increasingly tries to connect trends across exercise, recovery, sleep and wellbeing.

Google Health Coach is designed to offer more than simple motivational notifications. It can help users understand workout load, sleep patterns, recovery and general wellbeing, while adjusting guidance as new data becomes available.Google has also expanded the health experience around areas including nutrition, cycle tracking and mental wellbeing. The goal is to give users more context around how different lifestyle factors relate to sleep, readiness and exercise.For example, a user may be able to ask why recovery appears lower than usual, how to adjust a workout after poor sleep or how recent activity compares with their normal routine. This conversational approach is one of the biggest differences between Google Health and traditional health dashboards.

Google Health Coach is included with Google Health Premium. In India, Google lists the subscription at ₹499 per month or ₹4,999 per year.Google Health Premium is also included with eligible Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscriptions, which could make the service more attractive for users already paying for Google's broader AI plans.Google says a supported Fitbit device or Pixel Watch is required for access to Google Health Premium. Google officially announced Google Health Coach for India in May 2026. The rollout started on May 19 and was scheduled to reach full availability by May 26 for eligible users.The Google Health app is available across Android and iOS, although the exact feature set can depend on the connected wearable, subscription and device platform.Google initially positioned the Health Coach experience around eligible Fitbit and Pixel Watch users, with broader device support expected to expand over time.
